Urban Survival and Preparedness Courses (Class
Calendar)
The urban core courses teach preparedness (individual, family & neighbors, institutional),
urban salvage and adaptation (12V and 120V wiring, solar, wind power, rainwater
collection, etc), community defense, bug-out scenarios and much more. The Urban
Core Basic presents over 45 class hours, balanced across an organized set of subject
matter and taught in classroom, hands-on and scenario-based environments.
Some of the Urban Preparedness series classes offered are:
- Homesteading From The Ground Up. This series is a hands-on, “how-to” blueprint
for anyone who wants to build their own self-sustainable, green homestead. It is
also extremely useful for people living in an urban environment who want to slowly
become more self-sustainable.
- Permaculture Certification. This certification course is the original Permaculture
Certification Course developed by Bill Mollison and David Holmgren, and provides
the Certificate of Permaculture Design. Permaculture

- The Urban Core Basic Series. The Urban Core Basic Course is the urban counterpart
in many ways to the Primitive Core Basic (the original Core Basic). This course
is the same number of class hours (~48) but spread over 3 weekends rather than 2
(2-day weekends rather than the 3-day weekends that the Primitive Core Basic requires).
Where the Primitive Core Series is teaching students to become a mobile
team that is fully comfortable in the woods or a primitive setting, the Urban Core
Series is teaching students how to set up and function in a small community using
practical skills that always lean heavily toward conservation and sustainability
of our natural resources. The Urban Core Series is not physically demanding in the
way that the Primitive Core Series is, yet it presents an entirely different set
of challenges that there are often no easy solutions to.
