Primitive Engineer:     (Class Calendar)

The primitive engineer must be able to think quickly, see salvage materials where others see junk, understand basic principles of physics and chemistry, and most importantly be inventive. The primitive engineer is a creative problem solver who is always asking, "Is there a way to do this better with the materials I have on hand?"

As with all concepts in THP, "doing things better" has to take into account the long-term impact on ourselves, our planet and our resources. So for example, making something easier in the short term while creating toxic waste is not really solving anything.
Primitive Engineering, San Antonio, Texas
In a team environment, the primitive engineer keeps the team mobile, supplied and highly functional. The skills that she or he must excel at include skills like pre-industrial mechanics (wheels, pulleys, levers, ropecraft, etc), mechanical problem solving, transportation solutions and even computers.

The types of problems usually being solved by the primitive engineer are problems of logistics, mechanics, physical labor/strength, convenience and practicality. This is a vital component of a team whether in a pristine wilderness setting, an urban environment, or somewhere in between.
